Ok, this post is nothing more than a rant really.
I was working with a couple to
build them a home. They chose
another builder because
he had a home site that they wanted.
The home is in the same development
that I am building a home in
right now.
I recently "snuck" into the other home during the day when trades people were there. The couple I referenced. This is their retirement home.
While walking around the house I realized that their bedroom door, bathroom door and closet door are NOT wide enough to be considered accessible. Neither a wheelchair, nor a walker will fit through any of the doors. Amazing!
If you are building a retirement home, wouldn't you think to make it accessible. This by the way is the 3rd home they have built.
Ok, ok, they are not professional builders. Why would they think of such a thing at the ripe, young age of 60. You're right!
Well then what about the builder? He is the builder. Why didn't he think about it? I don't know. It is frustrating though to think that for another $100 to $200 and a few minor changes this home could have been made much more accessible for its owners.
You get what you pay for!
Sorry about the rant. If you want a builder that builds really great homes, that rants sometimes, but loves what he does, please visit our website at www.heartlandbuilders.com and be sure to "Ask Rich" and send me a message. I would love to hear from you. We build homes in and around the Grand Rapids, MI area.
Build on!
