The Process of Building a Home

Building a home is a great experience.
Let's break down the process.

1. Determine your floor plan - You can select one of
our plans as is - or modify it - or we will work together to design a home that is uniquely yours.

2. Determine the cost of the home - We will provide you with an initial cost of your home based on your desired features for the home.

3. Land Evaluation - Can't build a home without land! We will arrange a personal visit with you to the home site. It may be one that you already own or one you want to buy.

4. Sign the contract. We know the costs, we have the construction drawings, the land is determined - - - Congratulations!

5. Financing - Off to the lender you go (for some). You will need from us (1) a signed contract, (2) an estimate for your home, and (3) construction drawings. You can be sure that they will need more from you in the way of tax returns, etc..

6. Final Selections - Once your contract is signed and you are pursuing financing we will review your selections one more time. We will also finalize the construction drawings.

7. Pre-Construction Meeting - When your financing is secured, we are one step away from breaking ground. The pre-construction meeting is held to lay out the schedule of construction, review the site plan and make sure that everyone is in gear. We are ready to break ground.

8. Construction - Let it begin! The process of building a home is really 70% planning and 30% building. Read our blog entry "Build with Confidence." Your trips to visit your home should be fun. Enjoy the process. Your work is really nearly complete.

There will be formal meetings on site with you during the course of construction - see our blog post covering this matter. In between those meetings, stop by
and see the progress. Call with questions. We will be calling you with updates. Have fun!

9. Moving Day - The fruits of your labor. Your dreams. Your wishes. Today is the day you get to celebrate. Do not take the magic of this day lightly. It is a wonderful feeling moving into a new home.

For us at Heartland Builders it is a bittersweet day. We like building homes. We like working with customers. We train our trucks to drive to your jobsite everyday. When the job is done we only get to come back every so often - which is a
commitment under our warranty, but we will leave that for another post.

If you are thinking about building a home "go for it!" It is a great experience.
