We want you to have a great experience when building
your home. There are steps that you as a customer
can take in order to ensure the success of your
building project.
Follow these simple guidelines and we bet you will look back with fondness at the building process.
Budget - stay with it; if you decide to go over pay with cash
Schedule - Require that your builder provide you one
Build with good products - Have your builder provide a list of materials - prior to signing a contract. Listing the brand name or material is important.
Warranty - The state of MI does not require your builder to provide you with a one year warranty. You should! Ask your builder his/her policy on coming back after the home is built - get it in writing
Allowances - (example - $10,000 flooring allowance, $2,500 lighting allowance) - Confirm that you can live with the allowances before you sign the contract.
Product Selection - (i.e. - carpet, faucets, tile, etc..) - Determine what you want as early as you can. Gives you flexibility. Helps you determine costs early in the process. Allows for changes if need be.
Guaranteed pricing vs. non-guaranteed - Does your builder guarantee the cost of the home? Some items you just can't guarantee upfront.
Formal Contract - Get everything in writing - Before you sign the contract
References - ask for them - make contact
Uncomfortable with Design - Find a builder that works with an Interior Designer.
Use a member of your local Home Builders Association
Smile - Have fun!
Live within your means
Building a home is a great experience.
